What We Mean by “Montessori for Meaningful Cognitive Support”

Montessori for Meaningful Cognitive Support refers to Dr. Cameron Camp’s adaptation of Dr. Maria Montessori’s educational approach to support people living with cognitive impairment in ways that are purposeful, respectful, and empowering.

It combines:

  • The Montessori method, which emphasizes hands-on learning, independence, and a prepared environment

  • With the goal of providing cognitive support that is meaningful — support that engages the person’s abilities, honors their identity, and enhances their quality of life

Rather than focusing on what a person has lost, this approach emphasizes what is still possible — and builds tools, roles, and environments around that belief.

We truly value our community. If something in the newsletter sparks your thoughts, just hit “reply” and tell us—we love hearing from you, and your voice helps shape the conversation.
