Dr. Camp holds a Ph.D. in Psychology. His academic background laid the foundation for his later work in cognitive and developmental psychology, with a particular focus on aging. His most significant contribution is his adaptation of the Montessori method for use with older adults, particularly those with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
The Montessori method, originally developed by Maria Montessori for children, focuses on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development.
Dr. Camp saw the potential for applying these principles to dementia care, creating an environment where individuals with cognitive impairments can engage in meaningful activities adapted to their abilities, thereby improving their quality of life.
